St. George’s Feast – Al Khader Village

A short distance out of the town of Beit Jala lies Al-Khader Village where hundreds of people from Bethlehem district flock on May 5th to St. George’s Church to celebrate the feast of St. George.

St. George’s feast day takes place on May 6th. One evening before the feast, Muslims and Christians gather for a picnic under the trees around the Church. In the morning of the next day, Greek Orthodox Christians from Beit Jala, Bethlehem and Beit Sahour walk in a procession to the Church. During the day people present their votive offerings in a festive atmosphere.
